ABOUT US
We are a group that got our start when a handful of us started ministering to ladies that work as prostitutes on the side of the road. What began as a small ministry of prayer and getting to know the ladies' names in 2021 has become a full team that goes out weekly to hold Bible studies with the women as well as help them exit prostitution through a holistic, discipleship focused process.

MISSION STATEMENT: As part of the Church, we seek to empower, disciple, and equip women in prostitution through a gospel-driven, relationship-based, holistic approach.

VISION STATEMENT: We long to see women coming out of prostitution transformed by Christ and acting as agents of change as part of the Church.


How We Do It

Thursday Gatherings

What started as a weekly meeting in a nearby KFC, affectionately called "Chicken and Church," has become a time where we rent a space from a local non-profit and hold church there several Thursdays a month. We have several hours with the women that encompasses sharing some food and coffee, building relationships through games and activities and conversations, and then going through Scripture together. Our primary objective at these Thursday gatherings is to build relationships with the women and share the gospel with them.

As we see ladies in the Thursday church sessions who are really engaged and express an interest to exit prostitution, we begin to have individual meetups. Over coffee, we will hear their life story and begin to discern what it could look like for this woman to leave prostitution and receive the support that she needs.

Exiting Journey Assistance

Exiting Journey Assistance

Once a woman has committed to the exiting journey, we use a lot of discernment along with her input to see what good next steps could be. With our support, she will work on tasks such as setting up a CV or getting her SARS number. An opportunity that several of the Butterfly ladies have chosen is a 9 month programme called Journey of Hope run by a partner organisation called Straatwerk. Straatwerk has been working with ladies on the street for decades, and their Journey of Hope programme is comprehensive, biblical, holistic, and meant to prepare the women to exit prostitution in a healthy and sustainable way. Throughout this time, the ladies volunteer, receive occupational therapy and trauma counseling, get involved in a church, do some entrepreneurship, and receive one-on-one discipleship from our Butterfly team. Within Journey of Hope as well as afterwards, the ladies are assisted in finding a job skills training programme and eventually work to sustain them. We support each woman with a small stipend and food parcels throughout this exiting process.

Donations go towards a variety of things including ​rent and supplies for our Thursday church meetings, towards the stipends and ​food parcels of women who are exited and in Journey of Hope, and special Butterfly events that we host for Christmas and Easter.
Not at this time. We are an informal ministry, and not a formal NGO or NPO.
